Liverpool is well known for its rich maritime, industrial and cultural history; but it is also a great to walk, hike and discover the great outdoors.

From the Beatles museum and the Albert Docks to the Liver Buildings and Sefton Park, Liverpool city centre is full of fascinating places to discover on foot. The world-famous River Mersey runs right through Liverpool, and provides a direct link to the beaches, towns and open spaces of the nearby Wirral peninsula.

If you like coastal walks, Crosby Beach is a wonderful place to visit with its 100 famous iron statues on permanent display, while further north are the pinewoods, sand dunes and red squirrels of Formby Beach.

And if it’s challenging hikes you want, head a little further north to the mountains of the Lake District, or into North Wales to tackle the rocky summits of Snowdonia. The Yorkshire Dales, Shropshire Hills and Peak District National Park are all close by too, providing fantastic hillwalking trails.
