Best Walking Routes in England

England is one of the best countries in the world to go walking, with a landscape covering everything from golden beaches and rolling green hills to rugged mountains and dramatic moors.

The best hiking trails can be found in the upland areas of the Lake District National Park, which is home to iconic mountains including Scafell Pike, Helvellyn, Blencathra and Great Gable. The UK has 15 National Parks in total, covering 20% of England’s land mass, and they’re all fantastic places to walk.

If you’re looking for adventure outside the Lakes, head for the Peak District, Yorkshire Dales, Northumberland or the North York Moors, where you’ll find dramatic peaks, wild moors, stunning river valleys and endless walking routes.

England’s landscape is packed with thousands thousands of lakes and reservoirs, ancient castles, historic railways and bridges, limestone cliffs, golden-sand beaches, Iron Age settlements, salt marshes and estuaries, cascading waterfalls, prehistoric monuments, towering sea stacks, and endless rugged coastal paths.
