This is a circular tour based on Slingsby, but since it passes through Barton-le-Street, you could just as well start it there. There is a gradual climb out of Slingsby, where there is ample roadside parking, to the ridge above Slingsby. The path is overgrown in places here. but reasonably manageable. The route crosses over the road to Castle Howard and glimpses of it can be seen from the path, which at this stage forms part of Centenary Way. In Coneysthorpe Bank there is remains of an ancient entrenchment close to the footpath. The route descends from the bank through Barton-le-Street and then there is a Public Brideway leading along flat countryside backl to Slingsby. All in all a gentle tour in the Howardian Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty, with straightforward navigation.
